Find Similar And Duplicate Photos With The Help Of Visual Similarity Duplicate Image Finder 5.4.0.1

This new version includes also the new features of the internal 5.3.0.1 release.

Improved Multi-threaded Performance

While VSDIF is extremely optimized in terms of CPU usage this new release provides some extra improvements and optimizations related to the multi-threaded performance. This speed optimization is not as big as those in recent updates, but it can make a difference on large collections.

Compare Folders – Compare Photo Libraries

This new feature provides a dialog box where a folder can be compared against one or more folder. This is a handy option when synchronizing multiple photo libraries. This feature is available only in the PRO and Corporate versions.

Improved Rotated/Flipped Image Comparison Performance

There is a huge performance improvement in this release when comparing rotated or flipped images. This version can be thousands of times faster in such cases.

Better Duplicate Photo Sorting

Sorting the images is now applied to the entire gird rather than sorting the items inside a group. The duplicate photo results can now be sorted by any property preserving the group integrity at the same time. This means that the list can be sorted by file size in order to remove the largest images or by file date in order to remove the oldest images first.

Additional Duplicate Photo Finder Improvements

The default cache name issue while using different precision levels is now fixed. This release provides extra backward compatibility and will load old projects without any issues. A small glitch in the cursor state when the application is paused is also fixed.

Duplicate Image Finder – Outstanding Performance and Windows 8 Support

Fstest Duplicate Image Finder

Fastest Duplicate Image Finder

Search for Duplicate Images Faster Than Ever

Visual Similarity Duplicate Image Finder 4.7.0.1 is now Windows 8 certified. The application utilizes a new cache system that provides immense speed improvement in the pre-processing stage. The improvement can be up to 1000 (no it is not a typo – thousand times)  faster depending on the count of images. Using the new cache system VSDIF can now pre-process 10,000 images in a second. It is strongly recommended to use the new cache system as consequential scans of an image library will be extremely fast.

The best thing regarding the new cache is the fact that it also detects modified files. This means that a file which was cached in a previous scan and has been modified will be identified and re-processed. This ensures that the duplicate image finder will use the latest version of every file even when using the cache system. The new cache system is available also for the “Image Search” feature and will work equally fast. Old cache files were designed for slow storage and computers and are no longer supported.

In addition to the options that were available for excluding files, the improvements in the filtering options now allow to include files based on various criteria. Here are the filtering options:

There is a new option “Check All Except First in Group” in the Auto-check feature.  An  updated browse for folder dialog can be used to navigate to a folder that is pasted from the clipboard. There is a huge speed improvement when loading large project files. The entire change log can be found here.

Image Search – How to Find Similar Images

Issues related to image search

While searching for similar images is  something simple for every human being it is not something that a computer can easily do. Computers are based on exact sciences like math and physics and  comparing data the way a human does is something that requires comprehensive algorithms.
An image in computers is represented by small dots named pixels. The pixels are formed by three color components – red, green and blue the combination of which determines the actual color of the dot. The count of the pixels determines the resolution of the image. Due to the high quantity of data necessary in order to represent a photograph using pixels most of the file formats utilize different compression methods. This means that the actual data stored on your hard drive for the same image in two or more file formats is completely different. This makes it impossible for a duplicate file finder that compare file data to recognize even images that are 100% identical. While it is relatively easy to decode and compare images in different formats, recognizing an object in two different images requires advanced algorithms and a dedicate duplicate image finder.

How image search applications work

The first most important thing for an image search application is to be capable of recognizing and loading of multiple image formats. As already mentioned, in order to extract the real information regarding a photograph the file should be firs decoded and decompressed. Once the images are loaded comes the heavy lifting part. Advanced algorithms are required in order to determine the similarities between the images. Even if the images are slightly edited or re-sized  makes it impossible for a computer to compare and match them.

Best image search application

Visula Similarity Duplicate Image Finder is designed with the sole purpose to search and identify similar or duplicate images. It supports more than 500 image formats which includes 300+ RAW camera formats. This guarantees that it will most likely recognize all images even in the largest image collection. VSDIF uses advanced image analysis algorithms in order to detect similarities between images and can recognize the same person on different photographs. The tool can save gigabytes of disk space by removing redundant data. It provides an image search feature that will take one or more sample images and find all the similar images inside an image collection. VSDIF provides highly accurate results and can scan thousands of images within a minute.

Visual Similarity Duplicate Image Finder 4.0.0.1 – Enhanced DICOM images support

Duplicate Image Finder

Duplicate Image Finder

A new major release of Visual Similarity Duplicate Image Finder 4.0.0.1 is available for download.  Using the Pause/Resume functionality you can temporarily stop VSDIF in order to perform some tasks and later resume the scan. A Quick Check/Uncheck functionality allows you to check/uncheck files by their folder, extension, file size, file date, etc. You can now add/remove multiple folders at once in the filter dialog. A new option “Quick load images” is added, which was until now always on.  If you have some strange results showing absolutely different images as duplicates, then turn this option off. This issue is caused by damaged images that can not be properly loaded when “Quick load images” option is enabled. An enhanced DICOM images support is added. This release also includes  other small bug fixes and GUI improvements.

Find Similar And Duplicate HDPhoto files – JPEG XR and Windows Media Photo (*.hdp; *.wdp; *.jxr)

Duplicate Image Finder

Duplicate Image Finder

Visual Similarity Duplicate Image Finder 3.8.0.1 is released packed with new features and improvements. The new HDPhoto file format (also known as JPEG XR and Windows Media Photo ) is now supported. A better browse for folder dialog lets you choose several folders simultaneously. There is a new option that can be enabled and will remove the groups that contain only one file after manual delete/move operation from the list. The user checked files can now be displayed using bold formatted font style. A new tab in the options determines which columns should be visible in the results grid. A warning message is now displayed if you try to uncheck all images in a selection where you had manually checked items. Please check the “What’s New” section below for a complete list of the new features and fixes.

Below is a description of the HDPhoto file format:

HD Photo is a new file format for continuous-tone still images that surpasses the limitations of existing image formats. HD Photo supports a wide range of features including:

• Multiple color formats for display or print
• Fixed or floating point high dynamic range image encoding
• Lossless or high quality lossy compression
• Extremely efficient decoding for multiple resolutions and sub-regions
• Minimal overhead for format conversion or transformations during decode

HD Photo is the new name for Windows Media Photo. Both names refer to the exact same file format. The Windows Media Photo name is still used to describe the implementation of HD Photo in Microsoft Windows products.

HD Photo is used in XML Paper Specification (XPS) to deliver a lightweight, high performance algorithm with a small memory footprint that enables practical, in-device encoding and decoding. It delivers compression quality comparable with JPEG-2000 and more than twice the quality of JPEG.

Most technologies in the JPEG XR Standard are based on the HD Photo file format. The JPEG XR Standard is also known as the ISO/IEC Standard 29199-2 and as the ITU-T Recommendation T.832.

What’s New?

Version 3.8.0.1:
