The latest version of VSDIF adds a native support for 64 Bit operating systems. While VSDIF was already running on a 64 Bit operating systems it had limitations that were applied from the Windows operating system itself – for example 32 Bit applications are limited to using only 2GB of system memory regardless of the memory available on the system. The new version can utilize all the resources of a 64 Bit operating system and perform much faster and handle larger image collections.

Preserve Group Integrity On Sort

Preserving group integrity is now optional and can be toggled in settings. This feature was enabled by default in the previous versions of the tool and was not configurable as breaking the grouping of the images may lead to confusion and the user may end up deleting all files from a group. Due to requests from our users we have made this feature optional, but it should be used carefully. Though it may be dangerous to use, it comes handy in certain cases. For example one can sort files by folder name or other property, select all items with the desired features in the list and use the context menu to check them all.

“Match full path” To Exclude Folder Names From Auto-Check

The “Match full path” option is introduced in the advanced auto-check options. In past versions only file names could be matched. Ticking the option will match the specified pattern against the entire file path which makes it easy to exclude folders with specific names or containing specified characters.

Up To 40% Faster Image Processing

The processing time of JPEG, PNG and JPEG2000 is optimized and is around 30-40% faster than before, but it can reach up to 50% in certain cases. Unfortunately this applies only to the decoding and not to the loading time which is limited by the speed of the storage where the images are located.

Visual Similarity Duplicate Image Finder 6.2.0.1 Provides Flexibility In The Folders List And Can Automatically Adjust The Orientation Of The Preview Images

The duplicate photo finder tool is already flexible with plenty of filtering options and duplicate search algorithms, but this new release adds some extra flexibility by providing an easy way of altering the “Exclude from auto-check”, “Disable self-scan” and “Remove from list” by providing a context menu which operates on all the currently selected items.

The new option “Automatically adjust preview images orientation” is located in the settings and tells the application to use the EXIF image information to properly preview an image by automatically rotating the image. Such option will not work on images generated by old camera models that do not have sensor for camera orientation or on images that have their EXIF meta-data removed. Of course such images can be manually rotated using an external tool in order to face the desired direction.

A user interface fix addresses a rare issue that is present when using “Large fonts” and low resolution and causes the folders panel to disappear. A fix for the duplicates information above the duplicates list is also available. The information was not properly updated after using the “Image Search” feature.

New Features In Duplicate Photo List

There are two new menu items in the duplicate image list – “Remove from list” and “Remove group from list”. These options are extremely useful while working with large results list in order to remove items and groups that are already processed. The “Delete” menu shortcut is now also updated accordingly and is now assigned the Shift+Del shortcut and the “Remove from list” feature now uses the Del key.

New Auto-check Method For Selecting Duplicate Images

There is a new auto-check selection method based on file name length – “Images with longer file names”. This feature is very useful as copied files usually have “copy (x) of” appended by Windows Explorer automatically to their file names. Also edited files usually are stored with some letter or number appended to the file name as “Logo.jpg”, “Logo 1.jpg”, “Logo 1a.jpg”, “Logo new.jpg” and so on.

Duplicate Photo Finder Fixes And Improvements

Some minor fixes and improvements are also included in this release. The multiple images preview wasn’t updated with the first found group after the scan was complete. On some systems where the small icon size is different than 16×16 the shell associated icons in the results grid were not loaded properly.

The “After scan” actions box is now enabled during scan and can be used to set the application to save the results and shut down the computer even if the scan is already running.

The Key New Features Of The Duplicate Photo Finder Tool

Filtering Duplicate Photos

A handy new option is added in the filtering dialog that makes it possible to filter folders by a phrase including wildcards. For example if the text “copy” is added – all the folders that contain “copy” in the name will be matched. Combinations of phrases can be used by separating them with a vertical line e.g.: “copy|backup|bckp”. In this example along with the folders that contain the phrase “copy” in their name will be listed also the ones that contain “backup” and those that contain “bckp”. A more sophisticated example is “b??(*)*” – it will match all folders starting with “b” followed by two characters then an opening bracket followed by one character and then a closing bracket followed by any number of characters. If the example is not clear enough the asterisk denotes that zero or more characters should be present and the question mark denotes that exactly one character should be present at that position. The combinations are endless and it is easy to match any folder’s name with high precision.

Duplicate Photo Finder User Interface And Features Improvements

Clicking on the folders grid header icons now checks/unchecks all folders for either exclusion from “Auto-check” or from “Self-scan”. The browse for folder dialog is updated so if no folders are marked, the currently selected folder is added. This makes it easier when adding a single folder to the list.

There is a hex error code for every delete/move file operation that fails. This makes it easier to identify the problem e.g. if the files is in use, if the user account used to start the application does not have sufficient permissions to manipulate the file, it he file is stored on a read only media and so on. A new “Zoom To Fit” check-box in the large preview window makes it easier to view the entire photo by automatically resizing it to fit the preview windows.

There is a small fix in the Corporate version where the firs file in the “-des_list” is not compared in certain cases. This applies to the command line feature and the issue has been present only while comparing “-src_list” vs “-dest_list”.
