Audio Dedupe 4.5.0.1 – Find Similar MP3

Audio Dedupe is the best tool for finding similar and duplicate MP3 files. It compares the audio inside your music files and can find similar songs even if they are not stored in the same audio format. No standard duplicate finder can find similar audio files if they are stored in different formats. The tool does not need the files to have correct artist and title tags, but if those are available it can search for similar and duplicate title and artist names too. Find what is new in this release below. This release provides three new auto-check options along with some bug-fixes. Removing duplicate songs will free up disk space and improve the performance of your computer by reducing the count of unused files.

Auto-check “Shorter file names”

As the name suggests this option will mark all the files with shorter file names and leave un-checked the one with the longest name.

Auto-check “Longer file names”

This option does the opposite of the option “Shorter file names”. It will leave un-checked the file with the shortest name in every group and tick the ones with the longer names.

Auto-check “Bigger file sizes”

An option to mark the files with the “Smaller file sizes” was already available in the tool and it was handy when you want to get rid of the lower-quality files – those are usually (but not necessarily) the ones with the smaller sizes. The “Bigger file sizes” option will leave un-ticked the file with the smallest size in the group.

We provide a free version of Fast Duplicate File Finder too so hit the download link below and free up disk space by removing useless duplicates.

This version provides some bug-fixes and useful new features.

What’s new in version 5.9.0.1?

Fixed group numbering issue after move/delete

There was an issue where if only some of the groups were moved/deleted the group numbers were incorrect due to the removed items. This issue generally should not cause any major problems, but messages like “All files in group XXX are checked for delete/move” were displaying incorrect group number.

“Compare only files with same extensions” and “Do not compare file extensions” are saved to the project file

The above options are now saved to the project file. Those options were already available in the application but were not stored per-project.

Quick-Check option “Match full path” in “File names containing” section

There is a new option In the “Quick-Check” dialog that allows the full path of a file to be matched – “Match full path”. You can specify a wildcard pattern like *mytext* that will match all items that contain “mytext” in the name. If “Match full path” is ticked items that contain “mytext” anywhere in the file path will be matched too.

We are glad to hear your thoughts and suggestions. Please share them in the comments section below.

The Key New Features Of The Duplicate File Finder Tool

Filtering Duplicate Files

A handy new option is added in the filtering dialog that makes it possible to filter folders by a phrase including wildcards. For example if the text “copy” is added – all the folders that contain “copy” in the name will be matched. Combinations of phrases can be used by separating them with a vertical line e.g.: “copy|backup|bckp”. In this example along with the folders that contain the phrase “copy” in their name will be listed also the ones that contain “backup” and those that contain “bckp”. A more sophisticated example is “b??(*)*” – it will match all folders starting with “b” followed by two characters then an opening bracket followed by one character and then a closing bracket followed by any number of characters. If the example is not clear enough the asterisk denotes that zero or more characters should be present and the question mark denotes that exactly one character should be present at that position. The combinations are endless and it is easy to match any folder’s name with high precision. Here is a screenshot of the new filtering window:

Duplicate File Finder User Interface And Features Improvements

Clicking on the folders grid header icons now checks/unchecks all folders for either exclusion from “Auto-check” or from “Self-scan”. The browse for folder dialog is updated so if no folders are marked, the currently selected folder is added. This makes it easier when adding a single folder to the list.

There is a hex error code for every delete/move file operation that fails. This makes it easier to identify the problem e.g. if the files is in use, if the user account used to start the application does not have sufficient permissions to manipulate the file, it he file is stored on a read only media and so on. All the error codes can be found at the Duplicate File Finder FAQ page

A new option to Keep Folder Structure while moving files is now added to the application. In the previous versions it was always ON by default. This new feature also takes care of file name conflicts in cases where two or more files with the same name from different locations are moved to the same folder. If the file “report.doc” for example is moved to the same folder from multiple locations the extra copies will be moved with the name “report (1).doc”, “report (2).doc” and so on.

Earlier versions of Fast Duplicate File Finder ignored the desktop folders if the “Protection for system files and folders” was enabled in settings. (This option is enabled by default in order to prevent damages to the operating system by novice users). Current version will scan the desktop folders even if that option is enabled as many users store their files on the desktop. In order to prevent damages to the desktops of other user the application will ignore shortcut files which are intentionally duplicated over the desktops of every user. E.g. two different users can have shortcuts to the same applications.
